Our Process.

Unlike works of art that are perfect upon completion, the art of shaping the landscape is subtle and takes TIME to achieve the intended result. And yet that result is never final or unchangeable. CHLA’s gardens are in and of themselves a PROCESS—never finished and always needing attention. It is a privilege to share in this process with our valued friends and clients.

Throughout each project, CHLA completes a series of phases, each of which is critical to the overall success of the project:

1
MASTERPLAN: Includes initial site analysis and program establishment, development and approval of concept design, and development of preliminary budgets.
2
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT: Includes detailed plans, elevations, sections and critical details, and selection of all critical materials for the sake of permitting and detailed pricing.
3
CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS: Includes all final plans, details, and specifications for use by contractors to price and install all landscape elements.
4
BIDDING & NEGOTIATIONS: CHLA will solicit bids from general contractors and subcontractors, as required by the project, and will advise the client on acceptable bids for each specific trade.
5
CONSTRUCTION ADMINISTRATION: CHLA will review the work of contractor for accuracy and compliance with the plans, specifications, and quality of workmanship. CHLA will engage as in other aspects of the landscape implementation as desired.
6
POST CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT: CHLA will review the project with the clients as needed, review warranty issues, and will make suggestions for improvements over time.
